Threaded vs Threadless Grinders: Which one is right for you?
Emeka UgokweThreadless grinders are gaining some serious popularity. Threaded grinders, however, are still going strong among the community. Some companies dismiss the "archaic" that is the traditional threaded grinder, but we think there are valid use cases for both.
We'll break down the benefits of both so you can decide which grinder type is right for you.
Threaded Grinders
- Tried and true 4-piece modular design.
- Held together by threading the sections together.
- Typically includes a kief/pollen screen that can be removed if desired.
Threadless Grinders
- New, modern, and just downright refreshing. Typically a 3-piece design.
- Held together by strong magnets instead of threading, so no possibility of cross-threading.
- Also eliminates the possibility of the grinder getting stuck together due to residual buildup.
- Typically does not come with a screen.
Which grinder is right for you?
Choose a Threaded Grinder if:
- You're used to the traditional grinder and see no need to go threadless.
- You're usually on top of grinder maintenance, especially with periodically cleaning the threads.
- You absolutely need the kief screen.
Choose a Threadless Grinder if:
- You desire a grinder that requires far less maintenance than the traditional grinder.
- You need an equally capable grinder with a slimmer footprint.
- You don't mind the absence of a kief screen.
- You simply want to try something different.
